Bare Root Tree Program

We are pleased to announce the only seasonal tree grant program for communities in Pennsylvania!

The new Bare Root Tree program aims to assist communities in Pennsylvania with increasing the tree canopy and commitment to urban and community forests.  This program provides 10 – 30 large caliper bare root trees for planting on land owned by a municipality (streets and parks) or non-profit organizations.

EligibilityPLEASE READ PRIOR TO APPLYING
Communities in Allegheny, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties are
not eligible to apply, but encouraged to inquire about funding through Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (for Allegheny County) or the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties).   

In addition, representatives from government agencies such as PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, PA Department of the Environment, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, etc., as well was representatives from PSU Extension are not eligible to apply through this program.

Community Responsibilities
Approved applicants are responsible for scheduling a site visit and/or consultation with a PADCNR/Penn State Extension Forester and coordinating pick up of trees at a designated location and date. 
More information is outlined below.

Trees must be planted within one week of pick up. TreePennsylvania will purchase trees on behalf of the communities – funding will not be provided directly to grantees.

We are currently working on developing the Fall 2024 grant term and anticipate a few changes to the program. If your community is interested in participating as a NEW APPLICANT, please complete the form below. Returning grantees do not need to submit this form.
